Silo Scan.

Paper in, searchable PDFs out.

Photograph a receipt at an angle and get back a straight, searchable PDF, filed on your Mac and found again by any word on the page. Bring in a photo, a scanned image (multi-page TIFFs included) or an existing PDF: Silo Scan finds the edges of the sheet, corrects the perspective, reads the flattened page with the text recognition built into macOS, and waits for you to check it before anything is filed.

Scanned pages are read and filed here. To sort folders of files you already have, use Silo Tidy. For data-broker opt-out letters, use Broker Opt-Out by Silo.

01 · Find the page, then read it

Straightened before it is read.

A page photographed on a desk is a slanted four-sided shape, not a rectangle. Silo Scan outlines the sheet it detects with four draggable corners, corrects the perspective, and reads the flattened result. Move a corner and the page is read again. No paper to hand yet? The first screen and the Help menu open a sample receipt, photographed at an angle, so you can watch every step first.

02 · Searchable, not just scanned

The text goes into the PDF.

Every document is written with an invisible text layer over the page image. Export a copy and the text goes with it: Preview can select and search it, and Spotlight finds it by its words once it sits in one of your folders. A scan without that layer looks identical and cannot be searched anywhere.

03 · Named from what is on the page

Proposed, never decided.

A date, a kind of document (receipt, invoice, statement and more) and the issuer printed at the top are read off the page and offered as the name. The rules are deterministic, so what they found is always explainable, and the name stays in an editable field until you press File Document. The document keeps whatever was found, so the library can be narrowed by it later.

What it does
SC/01
Three ways in.

Drag files onto the window, import from the toolbar or with Command-O, or open one with Silo Scan from the Finder. Every page of a PDF or a multi-page TIFF comes in. A long import shows which page it is reading and can be stopped, keeping the pages already read.

Honest about what it found.

No page edge detected means the whole image is used and the review sheet says so, rather than cropping through your text. A page where nothing was read is flagged before it lands in the archive.

Detection · Perspective
SC/03
Checked before it is filed.

Put the pages in order, turn a sideways page a quarter-turn, or leave a page out. The recognized text for each page sits under its crop, so you see what will be searchable before you file it.

Read in the page’s own language.

Each page is read in the language detected on it. When a page mixes scripts and detection picks the wrong one, choose the recognition languages yourself in Settings.

Search it, then narrow it.

A local index searches the title and recognized text of everything filed as you type. Narrow the library to one year, kind or issuer found on the page, combine that with a search, and correct any detail the page got wrong with Edit Details.
