Privacy policy.
No account, no telemetry, and no Silo server. Your agreements are never sent to Silo Systems.
The short version
OhmsCounsel does not collect your data, and Silo Systems runs no server. In the current version, the agreements you import, the findings the checks produce, and the decisions and notes you add stay on your Mac, and the app makes no internet requests. Earlier versions are described below.
No developer-operated analytics, telemetry, account, usage metrics, error beacons, advertising IDs, fingerprinting, or crash reporting. Silo Systems does not collect, store, or share your content or derived work.
Everything OhmsCounsel does (importing an agreement, reading its text, checking defined terms, definition pointers, numbering, cross-references, attachments, party names, number words, and notice periods, saving your decisions and notes, and writing a report) runs on your Mac with fixed rules. There is no AI model and nothing to download. The native app starts an authenticated helper on 127.0.0.1 and talks to it over loopback on this Mac; it is not a remote service and accepts no external connections. Silo Systems runs no service that receives your documents, and there is no OhmsCounsel account.
What we don't have, and therefore never see
OhmsCounsel has no developer-operated server-side component that receives your work, so we do not receive:
- Your name, email, phone, or address.
- A device identifier, MAC address, or any other hardware fingerprint.
- The agreements you import, their extracted text, or any findings, decisions, reviewer notes, or reports you produce in the app.
- The contents of your Documents, Downloads, Desktop, or any other folder.
- Session timing, feature usage, button clicks, or any other behavioural data.
- Crash reports. OhmsCounsel does not implement a crash-reporting SDK.
Outbound traffic
OhmsCounsel itself sends nothing over the internet. Two kinds of traffic can still involve it, and neither carries your content:
- Mac App Store updates. When an OhmsCounsel update ships, the Mac App Store delivers it. This traffic is between your Mac and Apple's servers, governed by Apple's privacy policy. OhmsCounsel is not involved.
- Links you click. If you click an external link inside the app (for example, opening this privacy policy), your default browser handles the request. OhmsCounsel is not involved.
Earlier versions
Earlier versions, including 1.8.1, also offered three optional paths, each off until you turned it on: a model download from Hugging Face that carried none of your content, a model-catalog check that downloaded a signed metadata file from ohmslaw.net and sent none of your content, and a Bring Your Own Key mode that sent the document text, playbook positions, questions, and instructions (including any prompt you edited in the Prompt Library) that each analysis used directly from your Mac to the provider you configured. Silo Systems never received your documents. The current version removes all three. When it starts, it deletes the model files earlier versions downloaded into its storage and the provider keys they kept in the macOS Keychain for this app. If you still run an earlier version, those options stay off until you turn them on.
On-device data you create
The agreements you import, their extracted text and page maps, your decisions and reviewer notes, and your preferences live on your disk under ~/Library/Containers/com.silosystems.ohmscounsel/Data/Library/Application Support/ (plus any reports you explicitly save elsewhere). They are yours. We do not have access to them. OhmsCounsel creates or uploads no backup; macOS and any backup software you configure govern local copies. Deleting an agreement in Import removes its imported file, extracted text, page map, decisions, and notes after an explicit confirmation. A report you saved to a folder of your choosing stays there and is never deleted by the app.
Not legal advice
OhmsCounsel checks the mechanics of a document, such as defined terms, numbering, and references. It is not legal advice, does not create an attorney-client relationship, and does not tell you whether a contract is fair or complete. Always consult a qualified attorney for legal decisions. This product note is not part of the data policy, but we keep it on every surface that shows findings.
Children's privacy
OhmsCounsel is rated 4+ on the Mac App Store. OhmsCounsel does not knowingly collect personal data from children or anyone else. The same zero-collection policy applies regardless of age.
Third-party services
OhmsCounsel uses no third-party service. It bundles open-source libraries that read PDF and DOCX text, write PDF reports, and run the local helper. They run on your Mac and receive no data about you.
Changes
If we ever materially change how OhmsCounsel handles data (for example, if a future version begins to collect anything at all) we will publish an updated version of this page, announce the change prominently in the release notes, and require explicit consent in-app before any new collection begins. The effective date at the top of this document reflects the current policy.
The current policy is: Silo Systems never receives your agreements, and nothing about you is collected.
